Semih Durmuş was born in 1972 in Şalpazarı district of Trabzon province. After completing his primary and secondary education in Trabzon and his higher education in Malatya İnönü University (1994), he completed his master’s degree in Educational Administration at Istanbul Sebahattin Zaim University (2019).

In 1994, he started his teaching career in Ordu, Kabataş. In 2001, after being appointed as a teacher in Beykoz district of Istanbul province, he worked as a teacher and administrator in Üsküdar and Ümraniye districts respectively. After working as a branch manager in Üsküdar District Directorate of National Education for a short period, he was appointed as Üsküdar District Director of National Education on 13/07/2023 while he was Üsküdar Hafize Özal Secondary School Principal.

He is involved in many non-governmental organisations. He is married and has 3 daughters.
